2 Dec 2021: IIUM Video Campaign Shooting

On 2nd December 2021, the IIUM-Newton fund health campaign video was shot in the heart of Kuantan, Pahang. This video showcase the real-life journey of a husband, assisted by his wife and children, who succeeded in making their home to become smoke-free. The idea, script and storyline of this health promotion video are created by Dr Norul Abd Latif and Ms Raisya Syazmeen.

1 Dec 2021: UPM Video Campaign shooting - This scenic place at Perdana Botanical Garden was chosen to be the shooting set for the video campaign from University Putra Malaysia. The idea and storyline behind this campaign are by Dr Emilia Abidin and Dr Aziemah Zulkifli. It is a short comprehensive interview of the man's thoughts about second-hand smoke.

15 Nov 2021: UMT Video Campaign Shooting

UMT Video Campaign shooting - The first Newton fund health shooting was taken on 15th November 2021 in Kuala Terengganu. This video is about a father who shares his concern on his children's health to second-hand smoke exposure at home. He is one of the participants in the MyFamily MySmoke project. The idea and the storyline were well-arranged by Dr Tengku Azmina and Dr Nurul Latifah from UMT.




22 Nov 2021: MyFamily MySmoke Quantitative Meeting

We are very delighted to have this insightful meeting that we are reminded that it has been a journey in this MFMS research as we are currently discussing for the quantitative papers. The papers will be lead by Dr Aziemah along with Dr Latifah with a great assistance from Dr Sean and Dr Ruaraidh. Let us hope and pray our hardships will be paid off by helping more homes in Malaysia to be zero second-hand smoke in the future.

8 Sept 2021: MyFamily MySmoke Qualitative Training

We are very much obliged to have Dr Rachel and Dr Isabelle for this Qualitative Training, of how hard and excited we all are working on our Case Classification Session. This is for the Qualitative Analysis process in getting excellent findings in motivating more smokers towards smoke-free homes.

31 Aug 2021: MyFamily MySmoke on SHINE Webinar

Smoke-free Homes Innovation Network (SHINE) is an interdisciplinary group of researchers, practitioners and policymakers based in the UK and in Ireland, with an interest in future smoke-free homes work. This SHINE Webinar, chaired by Dr Rachel and Dr Ruaraidh has Dr Emilia as one of the speakers, representing MyFamily MySmoke team research to share its milestone and what are the possible findings.

8 Jun 2021: Smoke-free Homes Network Malaysia 4th Meeting - Sandpit Event

We had our excellent discussions over Zoom regarding future research, policies and practice on smoke-free homes in Malaysia. There were breakout room sessions of three groups and ideas were annotated live through Jamboard. This 180 minutes closed meeting was attended by 20 members from higher institutions, government bodies and private sectors with the aim for more homes in Malaysia will become smoke-free.

8 May 2021: Humanitarian & Volunteering Work at Kampung Semangat

During this pandemic outbreak of Covid-19 and due to the recent flood disaster that occurs during the monsoon season, the MyFamily MySmoke (MFMS) team have been actively involved in humanitarian and volunteering work in helping the flood-affected victims in Kampung Semangat, Kuantan. MFMS team had the opportunity to represent the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and MyWATCH to give out RM150 shopping vouchers to the B40 families of Kampung Semangat to help in reducing their burden.

7 May 2021: Welfare Aid Program to Flood-affected Victims

MyFamily MySmoke team paid a visit to one of the flood-affected victim's house, Makcik Katijah, as well as the village mosque of Kampung Semangat to inspect on the process of repairing and rebuilding the affected infrastructure due to the flooding. Apart from that, MFMS team also had the opportunity representing MyWATCH and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to give donations of shopping voucher and some essentials to Makcik Katijah in the hope to ease her burden and restoring her welfare and safety.

28 Apr 2021: MyFamily MySmoke Website Establishment

Announcement - MFMS Website has successfully published on 28th April 2021 and accessible to the public. This website presence is aimed to increase smoke-free home (SFH) awareness and promote SFH in Malaysia, besides reaching out to the smoke-free community of various entities. The website is developed by Zulkarnain Md. Sabri, from Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), IIUM; authored and designed by Dr Norul Hernani and Raisya Nur Syazmeen from Kulliyyah of Allied Health Science (KAHS), IIUM.

Kajian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui pandangan dan pengalaman keluarga melindungi anak-anak daripada pendedahan asap rokok terpakai (secondhand smoke).

15 Mar 2021: PM2.5 Level Measurement in Participants' Home using Purple Air

Second-hand smoke's level inside participants' homes is measured by using air quality monitor, PurpleAir (PA-II-SD). The air quality monitor will be plugged in somewhere in the main living area and will be measured for 7 days twice, for baseline and 1-month follow-up readings.

24 Feb 2021: Smoke-free Homes Network Malaysia 3rd Meeting

The SFHNM held its third meeting by Zoom on Wednesday 24th February 2021. The 90-minute meeting was led by Associate Professor Dr Emilia Abidin from the Universiti Putra Malaysia with input from the UK-Malaysia MyFamily MySmoke project partners at the University of Stirling, University Malaysia Terengganu, and the International Islamic University Malaysia. The meeting theme was ‘Growing our Network’ and we were delighted to have a total of 26 members from academia, NGOs, governmental and health departments attend and contribute to the session.

28 Oct 2020: Smoke-free Homes Network Malaysia 2nd Meeting

The SFHNM held its second meeting by Zoom on Wednesday 28 October 2020. Led by the Malaysian team from the Universiti Putra Malaysia and University Malaysia Terengganu, researchers from the University of Stirling were part of the 19 strong networks discussing the importance of advocacy and community engagement in tobacco control in Malaysia.

5 Aug 2020: Smoke-free Homes Network Malaysia 1st Meeting

The SFHNM had its inaugural meeting over Zoom on Wednesday 5 August 2020. Researchers from the University of Stirling shared the results of previous interventions designed to create smoke-free homes, while Malaysian partners shared their experience and hopes for the network.

10 Jun 2020: Smoke-free Homes Network Malaysia Kick-off Meeting

We were pleased to kick off the MyFamily My Smoke project on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 June. This is a collaboration between the University of Stirling, three Malaysian universities (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and the International Islamic University of Malaysia) and three NGOs (MyWATCH, FOMCA and the Malaysian Green Lung Association) to develop capacity in monitoring second-hand smoke in homes and deliver smoke-free homes public awareness campaign.

Introductory to MyFamily MySmoke research project, welcoming team members from the UK, Malaysia as well as the involvement from the NGOs.
